After putting her heart into Specs Around Town for the past twenty years, owner Julie Kubsch has decided to keep Specs eyeglasses boutique in the familiar downtown location independent of VisionPoint. Her strong desire to steward Specs independently and in her familiar location became clear as the reality of moving and merging got closer. Both VisionPoint and Specs have mutually agreed to this decision.
All of the current optometrists and ophthalmologists involved in the existing practices are moving to the new business. The VisionPoint eyewear boutique will be staffed by the current opticians from the four practices as planned and will offer a wide selection of eyewear including many exclusive international brands.
VisionPoint owners wish Specs the very best and continued success. Likewise, Specs wishes VisionPoint success in the upcoming merger.
Our practices have been collaborating for years to provide excellent patient care. When we merge as one eye center, we will provide seamless integrated care with our doctors and staff working side by side on a daily basis.
It will allow for smoother integration between the Optometrists who serve as the primary care doctors in eye care and the Ophthalmologists who serve as the specialists and surgeons. Combining resources allows each doctor to focus on their trained specialty of care, and provides patients a more efficient office visit.
The eye center will be able to provide the most advanced technology which continues to improve and enhance the quality of diagnosing and treating eye conditions.
Specs Around Town’s wide variety of eyewear collections from around the world, in addition to traditional glasses will provide our patients with an unmatched selection of eyewear and sunglasses.
Patients will continue seeing their current provider at each individual practice until VisionPoint Eye Center’s grand opening in the fall of 2019. At that time, patients will continue seeing their preferred doctor at our new location. Patients will see both new and familiar faces as all our staff will be joining us at VisionPoint. In addition to providing routine vision and medical eyecare for patients, LASIK surgery and minor eye surgical procedures will take place at the new facility along with all post-operative visits. Cataract surgery will continue to take place in the Eastland Medical Plaza Surgicenter on the OSF St. Joseph campus.
There will be several amenities to enhance our patients’ and guests’ experience:
In May 2018, three Bloomington-Normal Ophthalmologists and nine Optometrists from four local practices along with well-known spectacle boutique, Specs Around Town, announced we are bringing our businesses together to create a single, state-of the art eye center to serve Central Illinois.
The new owners of the business will be Drs. Brownstone, Crockett, Huettemann, Landess, Pinter, Norell, and Dunn. All of the current optometrists and ophthalmologists involved in the existing practices are planning to practice in the new business. It is estimated that the new practice will employ approximately 90 staff, which is equivalent to the combined sum of staff at each individual office.
In addition to providing routine vision, medical and optical care for eye patients, LASIK surgery and minor eye surgical procedures will take place at the new facility along with all post-operative visits. Cataract surgery will continue to take place in the Eastland Medical Plaza Surgicenter on the OSF St. Joseph campus.
It will allow for smoother integration between the Optometrists who serve as the primary care doctors in eye care and the Ophthalmologists who serve as the specialists and surgeons. Combining resources allows each doctor type to do what they do best.
Through economies of scale and shared expenses, the new business will be able to provide the most advanced technology which continues to improve and enhance the quality of diagnosing and treating all eye conditions.
We will be able to offer our patients a beautiful new and modern facility.
Through the combination of Specs Around Town and each practices eye wear departments, will provide our patients with many choices in eyewear and sunglasses.
We have selected the name VisionPoint Eye Center as the name for the new practice because it represents our core values. The word “Vision” is both literal in describing what we do, but it also acknowledges that we are forward-thinking and have a vision for the future. The word “Point” signifies this central place where all our practices come together and the primary location our patients receive care. The emblem that we have chosen has three interconnecting circles that represent our interconnecting values of medical excellence, patient centered care and our interdependence as a team. These circles also represent the three vision sciences that are merging: Ophthalmology, Optometry and Opticianry. The shape that immerges in the center of these three circles is that of an eye – the focal point of our services.
